Common Ground Scorecard for Tammy Baldwin
U.S. Senate
Tammy Baldwin (WI - D)
Tammy Baldwin has been at once a trailblazer and a traditionalist. Entering the Senate in 2013 as its first openly gay member, she said that she planned to represent the ordinary people whose interests are too often put second to those of corporations. She earned her undergraduate degree from Smith College in 1984 and was appointed to the Madison City Council in 1986. Later that year Tammy won election as a Dane County supervisor while still attending law school at the University of Wisconsin.
