Sharice Davids has been an advocate for the needs of American Indians and tribal governments since arriving in Congress. Her 2018 election made her the first LGBTQ American Indian elected to Congress and one of the first two American Indian women, along with then-Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.). A graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a business administration degree, Davids worked on business and economic development on tribal lands in South Dakota. She founded a coffee roasting company, Hoka Coffee, on a tribal reservation.
