Common Ground Scorecard for Sanford Bishop
U.S. House
Sanford Bishop (GA-2 - D)
Sanford Bishop uses his seat on the House Appropriations Committee to prioritize the interests of his rural Georgia district’s farming and military interests. He’s charted an unusual course as a member of two key Democratic groups: the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and the Congressional Black Caucus that often champions expanding the safety net. A political science major, Bishop earned an undergraduate degree in 1968 and a law degree at Emory University in Atlanta in 1971. He settled in Columbus and opened a law practice specializing in civil rights issues.
