Neal’s calm, thoughtful demeanor suits him well for the job of leading the House’s chief tax oversight panel and Ways and Means Committee. Additional priorities include an infrastructure bill to upgrade the country’s roads, bridges, and waterways. Neal is a dependable Democratic vote, though he has a more pro-business bent and is a Roman Catholic so therefore can be considered more conservative on trade and abortion policy issues. Neal taught high school and lectured at several colleges before entering local politics as a city councilor.
