Raúl Grijalva, an Arizona border-district community organizer turned politician, has been the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee since 2015 and its chairman since 2019. He sued the Trump administration over potential environmental harm caused by the construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall — one of President Trump’s signature issues. He was the director of a neighborhood center for 11 years. For much of that time, from 1974 to 1986, he also served on the elected Tucson school board.
