Common Ground Scorecard for Rashida Tlaib
U.S. House
Rashida Tlaib (MI-12 - D)
Rashida Tlaib is one of four young progressive Democrats who became known as “The Squad,” including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ayanna Pressley (MA), and Ilhan Omar (MN). In a time of a coronavirus pandemic and economic uncertainty, the squad’s left-wing message clearly struck a chord in Tlaib’s heavily Democratic and deeply poor district that includes parts of Detroit and its close-in suburbs. In 2008, Tlaib became the first Muslim woman elected to the Michigan legislature, where she served three terms in the House.
