Common Ground Scorecard for Michael McCaul

U.S. House

Michael McCaul (TX-10 - R)

Compare

Michael McCaul backed most of Donald Trump’s presidential policies and decisions, serving as a national security adviser to the 2016 campaign. He ultimately voted against impeaching Trump, but the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol by a right-wing mob left him fuming. Closer to home, McCaul has introduced legislation for grants to better train police in dealing with people with mental illness or intellectual and developmental disabilities, and for a pilot program to train law enforcement officers to recognize and help victims of child exploitation and human trafficking. Prior to politics, McCaul worked as a federal prosecutor and as a deputy state attorney general under then-Texas Attorney General John Cornyn. He also served as head of counterterrorism and national security in the U.S. attorney’s office for the Western District of Texas.
