Common Ground Scorecard for Lloyd Doggett
U.S. House
Lloyd Doggett (TX-37 - D)
Lloyd Doggett has carved out a reputation as an outspoken progressive who is often at the forefront of hot topics in Congress, especially those that involve medical matters — and the 117th Congress is no different for the long-time Texas Democrat. As of late Doggett has been a key player in an effort to repeal parts of the CARES Act, the coronavirus aid bill passed in April 2020, that provided generous tax breaks on net operating losses. He attended law school at the University of Texas and became an attorney, then began his political career soon after. He was elected to the state Senate in 1972 and served a dozen years. Doggett takes credit for authoring 124 state laws including one that created the Texas Commission on Human Rights.
