Congressional action to combat the coronavirus pandemic gave Kim Schrier, the only pediatrician and the only Democratic female doctor in the 117th Congress, opportunities to leverage her medical expertise and work with children. In early 2021, as the U.S. raced to vaccinate as many people as possible, Schrier pushed for more funding for rapid, at-home covid tests for children heading back to school. She practiced medicine in a suburb of Seattle for 16 years before deciding to pursue politics in the wake of the 2016 election.
