Joyce Beatty (OH-3 - D)
A champion of diversity from the executive suite to the classroom, Joyce Beatty was elected to chair the Congressional Black Caucus in the 117th Congress. She earned a B.A. in speech from Central State University in 1972 and an M.S. in counseling from Wright State University in 1974. She taught at Sinclair Community College in Dayton and worked as a human services director for Montgomery County, Ohio. She became vice president in charge of outreach and development at Ohio State University and ran for the House after Republicans redrew district lines to create an urban Columbus district that was heavily Democratic.
