Common Ground Scorecard for John Thune
U.S. Senate
John Thune (SD - R)
In his role as second in command for the Senate GOP, John Thune has been able to simultaneously convey the credentials of both a conservative outsider from the prairie state of South Dakota and a disciplined party establishment insider who has been in Congress for over two decades. Telegenic, affable and sharp, Thune as party whip spent the previous Congress in front of the cameras and behind the scenes wrangling fellow Republican senators to deliver on Republican leader Mitch McConnell’s agenda. Thune began his political career working for Sen. James Abdnor, a South Dakota Republican U.S. senator.
