With President Biden making rebuilding the country’s infrastructure one of his top priorities, John Garamendi is well-positioned to continue his push on water and agricultural issues crucial to his district. He has focused on Sacramento Valley water and agricultural issues, including a controversial plan to divert massive amounts of water from northern to southern California. The Peace Corps remains a special interest to Garamendi; he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia from 1966 to 1968. Garamendi was elected to the California Assembly in 1974. He moved to the state Senate two years later and served there for 14 years, including two years as majority leader.
