Common Ground Scorecard for Jeff Van Drew
U.S. House
Jeff Van Drew (NJ-2 - R)
Jeff Van Drew, a dentist who has moonlighted as a politician for nearly three decades, is the most recent party-switcher in Congress: he left the Democrats and joined the Republicans in December 2019, at the end of his first year in the House. In an Oval Office appearance with President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif), Van Drew told the president he had his “undying support” and quoted Ronald Reagan’s statement about his own party switch years ago: “I didn’t leave my party. My party left me.”
