Common Ground Scorecard for Jason Smith
U.S. House
Jason Smith (MO-8 - R)
Jason Smith’s sometimes-mocking rhetoric and his small-government ideals leave little ambiguity for his Missouri constituents on where he stands. A lawyer and farmer, Smith has a reputation for being combative and says he wants to position the GOP as the party of the working class. In late 2005, Smith ran for a state House seat when the district’s House member moved up to the state Senate. He was elected at the age of 25 and moved up the leadership ladder, becoming speaker pro tempore in 2013.
