[Defeated in 2022 primary.] Improving the health of mothers and children motivates Jaime Herrera Beutler, who has three young kids and an independent streak that includes voting to impeach Donald Trump and bucking Republicans on some environmental and health measures. After graduation, from 2005 to 2007, she served as a senior aide to Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), with a focus on health care, education, veterans and women’s issues. She was appointed by county commissioners in 2007 to fill a vacancy in the state House. In 2008, she was elected to that position with 60% of the vote.
