Common Ground Scorecard for Henry Cuellar
U.S. House
Henry Cuellar (TX-28 - D)
Henry Cuellar defies stereotypes about Democrats, prompting some progressives to question his commitment to the party’s values. The son of migrant workers, he is anti-abortion and pro-gun rights. But the Texas congressman, in office since 2005, exemplified the difficulty of pigeonholing some lawmakers in the Donald Trump era. The first member of his family to go to college, Cuellar went on to obtain a law degree and Ph.D. in government from the University of Texas at Austin.
