Dusty Johnson, who has called himself a “detail-focused policy wonk,” is the top Republican on the House Agriculture subcommittee overseeing the USDA’s operations and nutrition programs. Agriculture is a top industry in South Dakota and Johnson aims to continue securing more help and funding to offset the Covid-19 economic losses experienced by farmers, ranchers and other food providers. He worked at the U.S. Agriculture Department as a Truman Scholar doing rural development work. In 2002, he was a policy adviser to Republican Gov. Mike Rounds.
