Don Bacon is a retired Air Force brigadier general who focuses on national security matters and promoting civility in Congress. Over his almost 30-year military career, Bacon had 16 assignments in seven states and three foreign countries, including Iraq. After retiring in 2014, Bacon and his wife returned to the Omaha area, where he became an assistant professor at Bellevue University. In 2016, Bacon won the Omaha-area 2nd Congressional District Republican primary over a candidate backed by the far-right House Freedom Caucus.
