Diana DeGette, Colorado’s most senior member of Congress, frequently holds the gavel in the House and has influenced some of the biggest debates in Congress of late, including the impeachment trials of President Donald Trump and oversight of federal agencies on Covid-19. Her priorities include advancing health care, protecting the environment, and reducing gun violence. While she’s a stalwart progressive, DeGette has forged alliances with Republicans on health measures. DeGette seemed destined for politics, serving two terms in the Colorado House of Representatives before vaulting to the federal level in 1996.
