Darrell Issa, a conservative Republican who once used his committee gavel to challenge and investigate the Obama administration and spar with his Democratic colleagues, returned to Capitol Hill after a two-year hiatus. Issa ran on a platform that supported building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, which is very close to the 50th District that encompasses parts of San Diego and Riverside counties. Before getting into politics, Issa co-founded Directed Electronics Inc. in 1982 in Cleveland, Ohio. It became one of the largest car security companies in the country and makes products such as the Viper alarm.
