A veteran Chicago Democratic politician, Danny Davis has gained the reputation for holding weekly office hours in his district. First elected in 1996, Davis in years past ran for Chicago mayor twice and expressed interest in being appointed to the Senate when Barack Obama vacated his seat after being elected president. Traditionally, Davis has been recognized as a solid progressive. After college, Davis worked as a postal clerk, a teacher, an assistant principal, and a guidance counselor in public schools and ran a community health project on the West Side before he entered politics.
