Common Ground Scorecard for Burgess Owens
U.S. House
Burgess Owens (UT-4 - R)
Burgess Owens played as an NFL safety for a Super Bowl championship team before becoming a Fox News contributor, motivational speaker and founder of a nonprofit organization that tries to help troubled and incarcerated youth. He expresses his views in unambiguous, partisan terms, such as telling a Fox interviewer that the Democratic Party is led by “narcissists and sociopaths.” Owens said he “lost everything” after the collapse of the business he launched as a post-NFL career.
He worked as a chimney sweep and a midnight security guard, and said his struggle to emerge from poverty taught him a lot about Second Chances, the name he gave to the nonprofit he founded for youth.
