Brett Guthrie has focused his efforts in Congress on trying to roll back federal regulations he believes have held back businesses, including health care rules, often citing the experience of his family’s manufacturing company. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and now the senior Republican on the panel’s Health Subcommittee, he helped develop and advance House Republicans’ bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act in 2017. He’s also supported other health initiatives, such as bipartisan bills to address early detection and treatment of opioid abuse.
