Andy Barr is a small-government Republican who wants to keep Congress from tinkering with coal mining in his home state of Kentucky and from censoring social media platforms. He says Congress must halt “runaway spending” and “overregulation.” He also has embraced the politics of Donald Trump and his supporters. Born in Lexington, Barr earned a government and philosophy degree from the University of Virginia. He began his career in politics in 1996 as a legislative assistant to then-Rep. Jim Talent (R-Mo.).
