André Carson of Indianapolis makes national security his focus as the first Muslim to serve on the House Intelligence Committee. Carson was named chair of the prestigious select committee’s Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation, which focuses especially on eliminating domestic terrorism by white nationalists, which he calls one of the country’s biggest threats. Much of his focus in Congress has been aimed at helping those who live in disadvantaged communities. He supports education, job training and economic development programs aimed at relieving poverty.
