Mike Carey is a coal industry lobbyist and an ally of Donald Trump who was elected to the House in a November 2021 special election on the strength of the former president’s endorsement. He supports “lowering taxes, cutting red tape, demanding fair trade deals, and investing in our military.” Carey was a U.S. Army Reserve officer from 1989 until 1999, when he became president of the Ohio Coal Association. He served in that role until 2012, when he became chairman of the board. The same year he became vice president of government affairs at Murray Energy Corporation.
