Doug Burgum (ND - R)
Doug Burgum (R) is the governor of North Dakota. He has served in the position since 2016. He officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on June 7, 2023. Burgum has focused his campaign on energy production, the economy, and national security. Burgum said he would cut taxes, reduce inflation and the cost of living, and increase domestic energy production. He also highlighted his background as the governor of a small-population state. “We need someone in the White House with small-town values who understands how real Americans get up every morning to put food on the table.” Before serving in elected office, Burgum founded Great Plains Software in 1983, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2001. He then worked at Microsoft as a senior vice president from 2001 to 2007.
