Tammy Duckworth is best known for military service and sacrifice. She lost both legs in Iraq when a rocket-propelled grenade brought down the Army Black Hawk helicopter she was co-piloting. That moment on Nov. 12, 2004, ended her combat career and began her second one in public life, as a veterans’ advocate and then a politician. Duckworth regularly champions improving access and rights for people who use wheelchairs and electric scooters for mobility.
