Nanette Barragan (CA-44 - D)
The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Nanette Barragán has made immigration the focus of her legislative agenda. The Democratic congresswoman was a vocal critic of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, especially family separation and the Remain-in-Mexico program. Barragán put herself through the University of California, Los Angeles, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science, and the University of Southern California law school, where she graduated in 2005. Barragán first won public office in 2013, when she was elected to the Hermosa Beach City Council after campaigning against oil drilling. She was the city’s first Latina mayor.
