Pete Aguilar represents a majority-Hispanic southern California district that includes many recent immigrants from Mexico, and was the scene of a 2015 domestic terror attack that brought the issues of gun violence and the fight against terror close to home. He was elected Democratic Caucus vice chair for the 117th Congress, making him the No. 6 in leadership and the highest ranking Latino. Aguilar’s political career began with an appointment to the Redlands City Council in 2006. In the private sector, he served as director of governmental relations at Arrowhead Credit Union and later formed his own governmental affairs consulting firm.
