Joe Courtney (CT-2 - D)
Joe Courtney, a soft-spoken and conscientious Democrat, has been a steadfast advocate for his eastern Connecticut district, which is home to the nation’s largest nuclear submarine builder, the Coast Guard Academy, two tribal-run casino resorts, and the state’s flagship university. After earning a law degree from the University of Connecticut in 1978, he went to work as a public defender before joining a private practice in Vernon, a small town in the eastern part of the state. Courtney honed his political skills as a member of the Connecticut General Assembly in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
