Congress-watchers would be hard-pressed to find a member who’s emphasized the importance of revitalizing manufacturing as much as Haley Stevens. Representing the suburbs west and northwest of Detroit, the U.S. automotive capital, Stevens grew up in the Detroit area and has several family members who work for the automotive industry. She obtained a master’s degree in social policy and philosophy before assisting on both the Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama presidential campaigns in 2008. In the White House, she was a policy adviser in the Economic Development Administration as well as at the Treasury and Commerce departments.
