Jack Reed (RI - D)
A former Army Ranger and West Point graduate, Jack Reed is a soft-spoken, cerebral and civil leader on military matters for Senate Democrats. He supports abortion rights, gun control, same-sex marriage, and a vigorous federal government role in providing a social safety net and consumer and environmental protections. The Army put him through a master’s of public policy program at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and he subsequently taught at West Point until he left active duty in 1979. Before his election to the Rhode Island state Senate in 1984, he went to law school and joined the law firm Edwards and Angell.
