Common Ground Scorecard for Steny Hoyer
U.S. House
Steny Hoyer (MD-5 - D)
The 117th Congress is Hoyer’s second tenure as majority leader — he’s held the post since 2019 after previously doing so from 2007 to 2011. He served as minority whip for the eight years in between. In 1966, just after receiving his law degree from Georgetown University, Hoyer was elected to the Maryland Senate. Nine years later, he became president of the chamber, the youngest in the state’s history. Hoyer has long been seen as the leader of the more-moderate members of the House Democratic caucus.
